George H. W. Bush (Republican 1989〜1993) was the next President.
During his presidency, the Berlin Wall fell in 1989 and the Soviet Union dissolved two years later.
There was also the Persian Gulf War.
He lost the 1992 presidential election to Bill Clinton (Democratic 1993〜2001).
Clinton presided over the longest period of peace-time economic expansion in American history, which included a balanced budget and a federal surplus.
